We will be holding our first general meeting on Friday August 31 at noon (12:00) in COBA 609. We’re even providing lunch! This is a general meeting open to anyone that is interested so please bring you friends! If you can not make it, please feel free to email us and we will try to meet with you directly. The Light at the EndApril 2, 2012Greetings everyone! Welcome to the last full month of the semester. As the end of the term draws ever closer, we wanted to let you know about our sunset plans, as well our meetings from here until the end. First, officer elections will be held during the meeting Friday, April 27th. New officers will assume their duties the first day of the fall semester, but will be included in events until then. If you are interested in running for one of the three positions, review the constitution to see the duties of the office. We’ll also be inviting interested persons to sit in on executive meetings over the next couple weeks. If you have any questions, send them here. Also, if you attended our last Python presentation by Dr. Nerur, you can download the slides from that presentation so you can practice if you like. We hope everyone had a good spring break, and enjoyed the time off. We have some upcoming meetings to tell you about. Friday, March 23, 1200-1230, COBA 153: In the spirit of the season, we’re doing a little bit of spring cleaning. We’ve dusted off our files and discovered we needed to make some changes to our constitution. It is really important that we get at least 20% of our members there on Friday. We promise it won’t be dry. We’ll have Old School Pizza, drinks, and baked goods. If you’re not a member yet, it would be a great time to join up, and meet everyone. Read the proposed constitution here. Email us with questions. Friday, March 23, 1230-1330, COBA 153: We’ll be having a test review session for everyone Java I. If you have any questions or need help with anything, stop by. We should have plenty of food. Friday, March 23, 1330-1500, COBA 154: Join us for the second round of Dr. Nerur’s Python session. If you missed out on the first one, this would be a great opportunity to jump in and see what it’s all about. Again, there will be free food. Wednesday, March 28, 1200-1300, COBA 609: We’ve arranged for a representative from the IT consulting firm Sogeti to make a presentation for you guys. Be there if you can. Friday, March 30, 1200-1300, Room 609: Our own Dr. Sikora will be giving a presentation on his field of research, business intelligence. That is basically using the power of computing to get a leg up in the business environment over ones competitors. Come by and see what it’s all about!

Wednesday, March 7, 1900-2000, COBA 147: Web Design SI: Get your website working. Friday, March 9, 1200-1330, COBA 609: DBMS SI: We’ll be going over the second project. Come get yours checked out. Friday, March 9, 1900-2000: COBA 609: Resume Workshop: We know its the Friday before spring break, but we’ve got something good for you stick around for. We’re hosting a resume workshop and we’re lucky enough to have an IT headhunter to lead it. Come get your resume reviewed by someone who actually does hiring. Wear what you would to an interview, and most importantly, free pizza! Field TripFebruary 17, 2012How’s it going everybody? Three weeks until Spring Break! Until then, we’ve got some exciting members events coming up. Monday, February 20, 12-1:30 PM, COBA 609: Si Java II: Stressing about the first test? Don’t! Join us for a test review lead by officers who have been through these things before. There will be food. Tuesday, February 21, 1-2:30 PM: Data Center Tour: Ever wondered what a real data center looks like? Come find out. We’ll be touring the UTA data center. It isn’t on campus, so we’ll have to carpool. The officers can carry a limited number, so if you want to ride with us RSVP with a quick email. We’ll meet in front of the business advising office on the first floor of COBA. Wednesday, February 22, 4-5:30 PM, COBA 151: Si Java I: Stuck on the second homework? Get a helping hand, and get some answers. We’ll have snacks as always. Friday, February 24, 12-1:30 PM, COBA 609: Si DBMS: Finding normalization highly abnormal? Stop by and get it straight. Snacks provided.
Not a member yet? No big deal. You can join at the door. Details here. Valentine’s WeekFebruary 13, 2012Hey guys, we have a couple exciting events coming up this week for our members. Wednesday: 11-Noon: We’re having our first Si Session for INSY 4315: Advanced Web Design. We’ll have some snacks so if you need help with your web project, stop by COBA 609. Noon-1:30: We’re having our second round of Si for INSY 4305: Java II. We’ll be going over the second homework including the form construction, writing and reading the text files, and any other problems you might have. We’ll be in the same spot as last time: COBA 609.
Friday: Noon-1: We’re excited to have Dr. Nerur teach a session about Python. If you’re unfamiliar with it, Python is a interpreted programming language. It’s used heavily in the gaming industry. There will be free pizza so stop by. We’ll be in COBA 154.
