The source code for Bob’s Photo Album, the example from last Thursday’s web development presentation, is now available for download.  Please follow the setup and configuration instructions below to get the application working on your local web server.

  1. Download, install, and configure your web server and database server.
    •   If you want to configure your server components manually:
      1.   Download and install Apache HTTP Server ver. 2.2 or higher.
      2.   Download and install PHP ver. 5.0 or higher and enable the following extensions:
        • GD (php_gd2)
        • PDO with MySQL support (php_pdo, php_pdo_mysql)
        • EXIF (php_exif)
      3.   Download and install MySQL ver. 5.0 or higher.
      4.   (Optional and recommended) Download and install MySQL GUI tools.
    • Alternatively, download and install WampServer 2.0 or higher including Apache, MySQL, and PHP.  The following PHP extensions must be enabled:
      • GD (php_gd2)
      • PDO with MySQL support (php_pdo, php_pdo_mysql)
      • EXIF (php_exif)
  2. Download the BobsPhotoAlbum.zip package.
  3. Extract the folders phase1, phase2, and phase3 to your web server’s document root. This is normally htdocs in your Apache installation directory.
  4. Extract and execute bobsphotoalbum.sql on your MySQL database server to create your database.
  5. On your MySQL server, create a new user ‘bob’ with the password ‘iheartwebdev’ and grant this user all permissions on the newly created database, ‘bobsphotoalbum.’
  6. Open your web browser and test your local host’s configuration. Navigate to http://localhost/phase1/, http://localhost/phase2/, and http://localhost/phase3/.
The Bob’s Photo Album application should work as it did in the presentation.
