Facilities Management has scheduled a building electrical outage for Sunday, May 8^th from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 pm.  This outage will allow us to make some electrical upgrades to the fire protection system in the building.   The emergency generator in the building will remain operational to support on-going research.  It’s recommended that all computers be off during this outage to avoid the lost of information or equipment damage.

Planetarium Drive Closing

Facilities Management will be closing Planetarium Drive this Thursday and Friday April 28^th and 29^th.  The street will re-open to traffic for the weekend and be closed again on Monday, May 2^nd. During this street closing, the ADA parking spaces behind the Library will be re-located to F-10 with temporary signage.  Motorcycle riders will need to use other spaces on campus during this period.  We currently have 17 motorcycle spaces in lot 47 and 12 spaces at College and First Street on the north side of the UC.  In the event of an emergency we will have plates on site to reopen the street for emergency vehicles.

With the completion of the installation of the new generator we have scheduled a two hour outage on Sunday, May 8^th from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. to test the system under a full load.  We’re not expecting any problems, we just want to be sure that the system operates as designed. With the new generator we will need to complete this testing annually unless we have a actual electrical outage sometime close to the due date of the testing that would service the same purpose.

UTA Blvd. Closure

UTA Blvd. will be closed starting Monday 4-18-11 at 1:00 pm for approximately 10 days to perform a storm water tie in as well as two separate water tie ins. The street will be closed between Pecan St. and Center St.

The Thermal Energy Plant will shut down steam service to the campus May 23-25 to complete inspection and repair requirements of the system components.

Buildings served by the plant will be without hot water and steam during that time, but will still have electrical power, air conditioning, and cold water service.

University Hall Room 108

Facilities will be renovating room 108 University Hall beginning on May 16^th. Work will be complete on August 1^st. The renovations of this lecture room include flooring modifications, carpeting, suspended ceiling system, lighting, wall panel systems, A/V system, sprinkler and fire alarm upgrades and new seating.

Library Renovation

Facilities will be renovating the second floor of the library from May 16^th – August 12^th. We will be installing a fire sprinkler system throughout the floor. Renovations will include replacing ceiling tiles, installing new light fixtures, painting walls and installing new flooring.

During construction there will be a fenced exterior staging area on the southeast corner of the building. There will be two waste dumpsters placed on the west side of Planetarium Place from June 6^th – 17^th with only one dumpster after that for the remainder of the project. Temporary cones will be placed in front of the motorcycle parking spaces during the weeks of May 16^th – June 3^rd, and July 21^st – August 12^th.  Vehicles will still be able to access Planetarium Place during all phases of construction.

Campus Water Line Upgrade and Mall Improvements

Pre-Construction Notice

We have scheduled a pre-construction meeting for the above project  this Thursday , April 14th at 2:00 p.m.  We will be discussing the project schedule and how it will be addressed in phases to attempt to have less impact on the campus community. Phase One will start at the corner of Fourth and West and run down the West corner of the Maverick Parking Garage.  The contractor was able to move the start date up to April 18th to allow for Phase One to be completed before finals week.  During this phase the walkway between Pickard Hall and the Parking Garage will be fenced off with pedestrian traffic be re-routed through the Parking Garage or Pickard Hall.

On Friday at 10:00 am, Texas Masonry will be doing repairs to the 3^rd floor landing on Stairwell #2. This is the north stairwell exiting to 4th St. We will be removing & replacing loose concrete. The stairwell has been approved by EH&S to be shut down for one night and be re-opened Saturday.

Business Building

Facilities Management will be replacing the domestic water pump in the Business Building on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Water to the building will be shut off during this time.  The new system will improve the overall balancing of water pressure on the upper floors and also provide the University with energy savings.
