Geoscience Building – Closure of 1st Floor North Wing Restrooms for Renovations

Restrooms on the 1st Floor, north wing, of the Geoscience Building (men’s restroom #134 and women’s restroom #138) will be closing for renovations on Monday, March 13th.  Building occupants should access restrooms on the 1st Floor, west wing, or the 2nd Floor restrooms.

Be aware there will be some night and weekend work in conjunction with these renovations, so do not be alarmed if you see or hear activity in the building at unusual times.  Please let your fellow faculty and staff members know as needed.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your cooperation.

Maverick Activities Center and Northwest Thermal Energy Plant – Temporary Electrical Outage

In order to complete modifications to the campus infrastructure in support of the west campus construction projects, a temporary electrical outage for the entire Maverick Activities Center will be required and scheduled in two phases (this outage will also affect the Northwest Thermal Energy Plant).  Facilities Management has scheduled Phase I of this outage for Sunday, March 5, 2017, beginning at 8:00 a.m. lasting until 12:00 noon.  The building’s emergency generator will remain operational during this outage, but will support egress lighting and life safety only.  No one will be allowed in the building without an escort from Facilities Management and/or the Police Department during this outage.  Phase II will be scheduled in a couple of weeks, and an additional notice will be sent out as a date and time are determined.

To prevent any possible damage, we recommend you turn off all electronic equipment in the offices including computers, scanners, and copiers before leaving on Saturday evening (these devices do not need to be unplugged from their electrical outlets).  Please let your faculty and staff members know as necessary.

Emergency Electrical Generator Testing – Sunday, March 5th

Facilities Management will be testing the emergency electrical generators serving the following buildings on Sunday, March 5th, between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.:

Business Building

Central Library

Chemistry Research Building

Davis Hall

Engineering Lab Building

Engineering Research Building

Fine Arts Building

Hammond Hall

Nedderman Hall

Pickard Hall

Science Hall

Trimble Hall

University Hall

Woolf Hall

This testing will only affect the electrical services tied to each building’s generator, not the entire building.  There will be a slight “blip” lasting approximately one half of a second as the electrical service transfers to the generator and another as it is transferred back to the normal building service.  It is recommended you keep computer work in progress saved during this timeframe to prevent any possible data loss.  Please let your faculty and staff members know as necessary.

Life Science Building – Temporary Electrical Outage

In order to complete upgrades to the emergency fire pump system in the Life Science Building, a temporary electrical outage for the entire building will be required.  We intend to schedule this outage for Sunday, March 5, 2017, beginning at 7:00 a.m. lasting until 12:00 noon.  The building’s emergency generator will remain operational during this outage to support egress lighting, life safety, and select lab equipment.  If anyone has recently purchased lab equipment that must be served by emergency power and you’re unsure if it has been connected to the generator, please contact either Jeff Johnson or Toby Buhrkuhl at the e-mail addresses shown below.  No one will be allowed in the building without an escort from Facilities Management and/or the Police Department during this outage.

Emergency Water Outage – Chemistry & Physics Building

We must schedule an emergency water outage for the entire Chemistry & Physics Building to begin at 12:00 noon today, February 22, 2017.  We’re not sure how long this outage will last, but will get repairs made and water service restored as soon as humanly possible.  We have an equipment failure in the basement causing a leak.  Repair materials/parts are on their way to the campus now, and we have staff members in the basement keeping watch to prevent flooding in case the leak escalates.

We apologize for any inconvenience, but this is an unavoidable situation.  Please let your faculty and staff members know as necessary.  If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
