Dr. Tim Henry is Assistant Dean of the Honors College and a Biology Lecturer at the University of Texas at Arlington. He earned his BA at Baylor University with concentrations in Biology, Communications, and Comparative Theology. He later earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Baylor and thereafter practiced dentistry for many years. Since embarking on a teaching path, he has been involved in several activities, including: Developing Distance Education Courses via UTA-DE and UT-TeleCampus in Austin; teaching Masters-level courses to science educators; teaching Honors seminars for Quality Enhancement Program assessment; implementing active learning assessment initiatives for Honors College Scholars; mentoring Freshman Interest Groups; representing the new Environmental Society and other student organizations. Dr. Henry has co-authored an introductory biology text (The Pageant of Life), was Co-Director of Judging for the State Science & Engineering Fair, and has won much recognition for his teaching talent. He is a Leadership Academy Proctor, Resident Learning Community Faculty Mentor, member of the Leadership Consultation Committee, and has been participating in UTA's Leadership Retreat since before the turn of the century. As a member of the Active learning/Higher Order Thinking Committee, he works at implementing ways to enhance critical thinking skills among UTA students. Dr. Henry has received the Provosts Award for Excellence in Teaching, Honors College Outstanding Professor Award, and many other honors for his pedagogical innovations.
