The October 3, 2013 UTAAA Luncheon/Meeting was sponsored by University College and University Advising Center. University College Executive Director Dr. Dawn Remmers presented "What is New and Upcoming in Academic Advising?" and discussed a variety of topics related to changes in policy including Central Advising Records (CAR), Grade Forgiveness and Probation Advising Guidelines.
Dr. Remmers stated that the Central Advising Records (CAR) program will likely be available in early 2014, but it could be May. CAR would permit advisors to notify specific student groups and keep notes from advising sessions and upload documents to Image Now. This information could be viewed from any advisor with MyMav access.
The new Grade Forgiveness policy starts with first time college students that started classes this fall (Fall 2013). Transfer students do not have grade forgiveness options. Advisors will need to be very careful about which process is required for their students. Check the UTA Catalog for Grading Policies and Grade Forgiveness Requirements.
Dr. Remmers also went into detail about the new Performance Enrollment Contract that should be used with students on probation. She also discussed the flow chart for students on probation, warning, dismissal and subsequent dismissals. The Probation Guidelines are available online on the Advisor Handbook.
