Costa Rica

I want to go to Costa Rica to visit Arenal Volcano, Mounteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, and Tortuguero National Park.

Arenal Volcano, standing at 5,437 feet, has been considered one of the most active volcanoes in the world for the past 43 years, erupting every 5 to 10 minutes. I’ve never seen anything like that and I think that it would be great to see nature in such an active state.

Mounteverde Cloud Forest Reserve  is one of the largest attractions in Costa Rica. It contains more than 100 species of mammals, 400 species of birds, and thousands of insects, reptiles, amphibians, and plant life.

Tortuguero National Park was created to protect specific endangered sea turtle species that nest there annually. I think it would be interesting to see these endangered turtle species in their natural habbitat.

South Africa

Lion in Kruger National Park

Most of the reason I would want to visit South Africa is because of its natural beauty and wildlife. South Africa includes some of the best reserves and national parks in the world with hundreds of species of wildlife; main ones being leopard, lion, buffalo, elephant, and rhinoceros. I would visit the largest reserve in South Africa, Kruger National Park, where they allow all kinds of wildlife to freely roam around. I’d take a tour! I would also like to see KwaZulu Natal and Durban while in South Africa. The beaches are also considered some of the best because of the tropical fish and warm weather all year round. In order to view more of South Africa’s beautiful landscapes I’d also visit places like Cape Town and Table Mountain, which is in the middle of Cape Town. It would be exciting to go somewhere like this and enjoy natural attractions. I think South Africa would be a great place to do this.

London, England

London is the biggest city in Britain and occupies about 12% of its overall population. If I were to travel to London, England the first attraction I would want to see is the Buckingham Palace. Buckingham Palace is the home of the royal Queen and Prince Henry. It has 775 rooms total including 19 state rooms, 52 royal guest and bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices, and 78 bathrooms. The palace also has its own post office and police station. It is gaurded by 5 regiments of foot guards at all times. It is one of the most visited attractions and a must for me. Next, I would want to go to the Tower of London which was built by William the conqueror after his successful invasion of England more than 900 years ago. The tower has been put to many uses such as the first royal armoury, the royal mint, the royal observatory and the royal zoo but most well known as a prison. The Tower of London includes what is reffered to as “The White Tower,”the home to many famous executions and imprisonments including Anne Boleyn, Catherine Howard and Elizabeth the first, when her half sister Queen Mary had imprisoned her for fear of her own throne. I would also like to see The Tower Bridge which has stood since 1894 and is considered one of the most recognizable bridges built in the world. The bridge sections weigh 1000 tons each and are only risen about 4 to 5 times a week. I’ve always been interested in the history and these main attractions are always featured in movies and on tv so it would be exciting to experience them in person.

Las Vegas, Nevada

Photo: Las Vegas Strip

The Las Vegas Strip is a 4.5 mile stretch featuring the world’s largest hotels, casinos, and resorts. Some of the most fabulous shows are presented on hotel grounds including “Phantom- The Las Vegas Spectacular,” “The Cirque” and “Absinthe” which feature the best and most dramatic olympic gymnasts, actors, singers and overall talented in the world. Shows and entertainment like you’ve never experienced before. I want to travel to Las Vegas, Nevada to experience these shows and of course gamble in some of the best casinos in the world. Though I would pay to see the shows featured in the casinos, I would be sure to not miss out on all of the sites around me, like the Bellagio fountains. These fountains have 1,214 spritzers shooting water up to 460 feet in the air every half hour of the evening. Another free site to see would be the most amazingly modernized hotels on the strip. For example, The New York- New York Hotel features a roller coaster going straight through it! I’d definatley take a ride. Most of the places I’ve mentioned so far are places that I want to visit because of the history behind them but Las Vegas would be just for the fun entertainmebnt of it.

Italy

If I were to visit Italy, I would go to Rome to see the Colossuem, the Pantheon, and the churches. The Colossuem was built in order for old emperors to entertain with “games” and gain popularity among the people. It is considered the most impressive building of the Roman Empire and that is exactly why I want to see it. The Pantheon was originally built as a temple to all the Gods of ancient Rome. I just think it is very interesting that they believed in that so much to build such an awesome temple for it but then again I guess we do the exact same thing for our own Gods around the world. I would visit the churches in Rome because they’re said to be the most amazing and most beautiful. A more specific chruch I would want to visit is the Florence Cathedral. I’d love to sse the structure and inside in person, as well as the history that goes along with it.

If I were to travel to Italy, I wouldn’t forget to visit Venice where “the streets are made of water.” This city is made up of 118 islands, 416 bridges, and 177 canals. Its is visited by 18 million tourist a year, with a daily average of 50,000 a day. I’d mainly visit this place because where else am I going to see something like this and not to mention the romantic feel of the place. I’d have to take a tour on Venice’s famous “water-busses” down the Grand Canal, Venice’s main thoroughfare.

Ancient Egypt

I’ve never really been interested in egyption history or anything having to do with Egypt for that matter until last year when a friend of mine got “the eye of Ra” tattooed on his left and right foot. At first I didn’t know what it was or why he did it but he later told me about its symbolism and how he has always been really interested in egyption history. I took interest and later that year, in my astronomy class, I happened to have to go to the planetarium to watch “Stars of the Pharaohs.” The show basically took you on a virtual tour of the three pyramids and explained how they used science to get a sense of time, a calendar, align the pyramids, etc.

The pyramids and temples are amazing enough, not to mention the great stories behind them. The main reason I’d want to go to ancient Egypt is for the history it contains. I think it is  interesting the way they viewed and did certain things. After seeing how awesome it was in the planetarium, I decided to add it to my list of places I wanted to travel to.

New York

I’ve never really been too far outside of home and until I got to college, I’ve never been too interested in doing so. This past year I happened to travel the most in one year than ever before, which isn’t too hard to accomplish when you only leave Texas for family vacations once in the summer every two to three years. Because of my new found desire to travel the world I’ve decided to blog about it in hopes to satisfy the urge to visit these extraordinary places the world has to offer outside of home. For my first blog, I’ve decided to write aout New York. Traveling to New York would be amazing. I’m thinking about going there as a graduation trip after college. If I do visit New York, I’d definatley want to stay in Times Square. Times Square would be one of my top visiting sites because of it’s famous billboard covered buildings, which is actually required by zoning policies there. To be in the middle of such a famous place and see it up close, how it all comes together, would be unbelieveble.

I would also like to visit the 9/11 Memorial while visiting New York. It’s history in the making and because 9/11 happened in my lifetime, I would feel very honored to visit such a historial place. Another historical place I’d like to visit is The Statue of Liberty landmark. As a gift from the people of France to us as a symbol of friendship established during the American Revolution, this historical event is obiviously not something I witnessed in my lifetime but something that I could certainly appreciate just the same. Besides the famous landmarks and memorials in New York, I would also enjoy visiting Chinatown, Manhattan. The culture in Chinatown would be interesting to view and experience, just because it is one of the most local yet notably different places than the rest of the remaining area. It also has great immagration background and not to mention the shopping! Speaking of shopping, 5th Avenue would be a must. It is known as one of the most expensive shopping streets in the world with some of the most fashionable labels including Chanel, Tiffany & Co., and Christian Dior. What girl wouldn’t?
