Belated Congratulations Are in Order

Please forgive my belatedness!   I offer accolades to the following faculty:

To quote from CoE electronic newsletter

  • “Dr. Anand J. Puppala, P.E., has been inducted into the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Academy of Geo-Professionals. A new specialty certification – Diplomate in Geotechnical Engineering – accompanied the induction.
  • Civil Engineering Professor James C. Williams was recently named Engineer of the Year by the DFW/Mid-Cities Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers.”

More congratulations to:

  • Dr. Sahadat Hossain (CE Assistant Professor).  He will be the lead investigator using a two-year $671,395 grant from Texas Department of Transportation, doing research to investigate the stability of slopes along highways and levees along the Trinity River in the Dallas and Fort Worth area.  Civil Engineering Professors Laureano Hoyos and Anand Puppala will join Dr. Hossain in the project.
  • Dr. Simon Chao (CE Assistant Professor) “is leading a team comprised of faculty at UT Arlington and Valparaiso University in Indiana. Using a $599,500 grant from the National Science Foundation, the team will study two steel truss systems – special truss moment frames (STMFs) and staggered truss frames (STFs) – that have the ability to achieve large, column-free floor spaces.    … These models will be disseminated to the professional and academic communities and also used to develop educational tools to introduce K-12 and undergraduate students to earthquake engineering research activity, the significance of earthquake effects and the functions of building structures. The educational tools will be made available in the public domain.”
  • “Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Assistant Professor Yaling Liu has become the seventh University of Texas at Arlington College of Engineering faculty member to receive a CAREER award.  The National Science Foundation’s Early Career Development (CAREER) Award is one of the most highly respected by engineering and science researchers.”
