It’s been quite a while since I’ve been here. I couldn’t log on so I’m glad to have gotten my blog back. *Hugs*
I’ve always wanted to visit China but then again I have always wanted to travel. I want to one day celebrate the Chinese New Year with all the traditional things. Maybe next year, in two years, or sometime in the future.
So much has happened since my last post. I became busy with school and then summer, traveling, conventions, student government, and so much more. I kept thinking about my blog but with so much going on, I did not take the time to log back on. I kept thinking about updating the blog on the Year of the Rabbit like I promised and I had found out a lot of new information that is now somewhere on my computer. Thanks to my dear friend Justin who provided me with the information and resources.
This past year was definitely a year about growing up and becoming more independent. It shall continue this year with driving lessons, new job, and so much more.
Since August 2011, I have been attending MVC and became the Historian for Student Government Association. Yay! That was my reaction when I found out. Now my reaction is the opposite. I also got a new job at the school bookstore but it’s temporary.
I will do my best to keep this blog updated… there is so much stuff to talk about.
Oh, also… tomorrow is the start of the Year of the Dragon!
A much needed break came sometime around Monday night for some students at one of the colleges I attend. Some of the night classes were canceled and others were cut short due to the weather forecasts of a winter storm heading our way. While those us who take all or part of our classes online had to keep working on assignments many other students has a chance to catch up or rest. Some of us had to go to work whether it meant making a commute on the icy roads or working from home. However, to many students this break was not necessarily the break they needed. Depending on the situation, many students probably felt trapped whether it was at home or in a dorm room. By the time the snow started to fall the majority of the students were probably yearning to return back to their normal routine since the weather conditions did not allow for much to be done outside of the home.
I have to admit that the snow was very much welcomed as it meant that many of us could finally step out of the house and enjoy a good snowball fight or at least the chance to build a snow figure of some sort. Many football fans were worried about how the weather conditions would affect the game on Sunday night. I know I was worried about whether I would get to see one of my favorite teams (Steelers) play against the other team (Green Bay Packers). I was hoping for both the ice and snow to melt and it happened.
Although it was sunny, not all of the ice and snow had melted by nightfall. Meanwhile, some of my friends and I were happy to be able to leave the house and just hang out. Finally, a day we could actually consider as a break. Unfortunately it happened to be on a Saturday and not a day off from actual classes. At just about any major mall that my friends went to, they seemed to be running into celebrities of all sorts except for me. Then I end up getting locked up inside a Banana Republic at the Galleria Mall while looking for a friend I went in with. Thankfully a sales associate from the store was still there and my friend and I were able to leave. Apparently they thought that everyone had left but it was alright.
Sunday was finally here! Time for Superbowl XLVI! The sun was out but the air was still chilly and it was time to enjoy the last of the days we had left of the so called break before having to go back to school the next day. At the Angelika Theater in Dallas, it was free to watch the game but the food was pricey. The game was great and it was fun to watch it at the theater with other fans other than just friends. It would have been nice to be at the Stadium since it was so close but I think it was still just as great. The players were amazing and the game ended with Green Bay Packers 31 and Steelers 25. I made some new friends from Florida and some from around the DFW area. Took pictures with them and it was truly an awesome experience except for the cold weather.
Sunday night/Monday morning
I was unable to sleep and so were many of my friends and classmates. Everyone seemed to be worried about the workload and about whether school might get canceled on Wednesday as it is expected that we have another winter storm. Apparently, many people were tired that some of the classes got canceled and others simply forgot to go to class. Some overslept and then others somehow forgot their schedule. A couple of us were happy to be back and away from home. Finally, free from out wintry prison.
Yes, today begins the first day of the Lunar New Year.
The Year of the Golden Rabbit begins on February 3, 2011 and ends on January 22, 2012.
Every twelve years we celebrate the Year of the Rabbit and this year we celebrate the Year of the Golden Rabbit. I am now on the quest to find out why this year is considered the Year of the Golden Rabbit… but more specifically the Golden Rabbit.
There are twelve cycles:
These repeat every twelve years and each of them is assigned an element such as water, fire, metal, wood, or earth. This year we are on the fourth cycle. Those born during this year will be Metal Rabbits.
Rabbit Years: 01/29/1903 to 02/15/1904 (Water), 02/14/1915 to 02/02/1916 (Wood), 02/02/1927 to 01/22/1928 (Fire), 02/19/1939 to 02/07/1940 (Earth), 02/06/1951 to 01/26/1952 (Metal), 01/25/1963 to 02/12/1964 (Water), 02/11/1975 to 01/30/1976 (Wood), 01/29/1987 to 02/16/1988 (Fire), 02/16/1999 to 02/04/2000 (Earth), 02/03/2011 to 01/22/2012 (Metal).
As I find out more about the tradition I will post more information on here.
My name is Belem and I am new to blogging on Wordpress. I thought I had to write blogs for a class so I signed up a couple of weeks ago and today I finally signed up for a blog. Whatever the case may be, I guess I am now blogging again. I used to blog back in high school but after I changed e-mail addresses I was unable to log in anymore to the website (blurty.com). Maybe I’ll find something to write about that will interest readers of all types.
A little something about me:
My name is Belem
I am a college student
I am studying Biology, Psychology, and Medieval & Early Modern Studies.
Why am I studying so many subjects? I tend to have lots of interests and depending on where I am strongest at, then that will be where I will be getting my degree in. I was actually asked by my school to just get a degree in University Studies but declined their kind invitation since the advisor was unable to give me a valid answer as to what kind of jobs I could get after graduation with that degree.
I am currently attending three schools: UT Arlington, Mountain View College, and North Lake.
I play the piano, I sing, I don’t know how to dance (lol), and I prefer cats to dogs most of the time.
I love taking photographs and I just started taking photographs with people in them some two years ago because I was really shy about asking people to be in any types of pictures I took so I used to focus on nature, animals, and architecture.
I also like working with clay and making all sorts of things like plates, figurines and such. I actually had a show at school with both my pottery and photography creations with some very amazing artists from school. I have also sold some of my art which was awesome.
As anyone who is reading this can see, I love art!
I am involved at MVC with Student Government Association, Art Club, and the Anime & Asian Film Club.
At UTA I am involved with the UTA Freethinkers.
I have not joineda any activities at NLC since I am already a member of their Region II TJCSGA through MVC.
I am a Delegate and Senator for Texas Junior College Student Government Association so I get to travel a lot to different places around the DFW area, Austin, and Washington. <3
I have a lot of good friends, some are of course super crazy but in a good way, and I love them for it.
There is so much more so feel free to ask any questions and I will answer them depending on the questions… obviously if you ask for my bank account number I will not give you the answer you may expect. I’ll answer you back of course but you may just get a random answer.
