TRE to Receive Funds for Double-Tracking

Last week DART released news that the TRE would be receiving close to $7.2 million in Federal Railroad Administration funds to double-track the portion of the TRE between the CentrePort/DFW Airport and West Irving stations. The project is presented as a way to allow more trains, such as Amtrak, to run on the line, but it’s also a possible move forward towards having Sunday service on the TRE, as discussed in the Unfair Park Blog.

Community Gardens in Oak Cliff

A recent Dallas Observer article by Jim Schutze discusses the efforts of Community Gardens Oak Cliff to create community gardens in North Oak Cliff. He emphasises that they don’t go through the standard routes to implement them:

While people in other parts of the city waste precious time, energy and heartbeats scheduling meetings with city council members and talking to city staff, the Oak Cliff people just go ahead and do it, following the maxim that it’s better to ask forgiveness than permission.

A list of area community gardens is available here.
