Fall 2012 Course Announcement: The Conquest of the New World
In the Fall of 2012 I am teaching SPAN 4314: Latin American Lit before 1900, on TR 11-12:20. The class is about Conquistadors and Indians. We’ll learn about the Conquest of Mexico and Peru in the 1500s through eyewitness accounts by Spanish Conquistadors and native testimony. We’ll also study films about the Conquest and some modern literature that deals with Hispanic-Indigenous relations in the present. Below are trailers to two of the movies we’ll see in the second half of the semester. I hope to see you in this class: it’s one of my favorite subjects!
