While searching through all the different artistic responses I came across this video. It really made me think about if I could handle taking someone elses life, and I don’t think that I could. Every soldier killed was a part of someones family. Hearing Mr. Robertson talk about how hard it was for him to deal with having to shot that boy puts things into perspective. His first hand account of what happened really gives you an idea of how hard war can be on those who fight in it.
Many soldiers carry horrible memories of the people they have killed with them for rest of their lives. My best friend’s brother is a soldier and when he came home during the holidays a few years ago he told us about some of the things he had seen. He also told us that he had to shot a woman who was hiding behind a door with a gun pointed at him. He told us that he could still see her looking at him with hate and fear in her eyes. As horrible as it sounds, theres not much else you can do in a situation like that, its either kill or be killed.
There are no real winners in war, because both sides often suffer casualties. War isn’t just pulling a trigger, its taking away someone who was loved.
