Planning Your Academic Career

It is very common for students that work and go to school full time to not graduate when they plan on graduating. In order to help prevent this, it is recommended that students make a very specific plan of how they are going to complete their college degree. Doing this is not very difficult. The best way to go about doing this is to list every class that you are required to take in order to graduate and list which classes you are going to take every semester of your entire college career. By doing this you know what to expect each semester, therefore you will not forget to take any classes or run into any surprises. People that do this find that they thought they could avoid taking summer school classes, but they will end up having to take summer school in order to graduate on time. After you have made your plan, it is wise to go to your academic adviser to get it checked and then you will be done. By making a plan of your classes for your college career, you can avoid having to stay in school longer which can save you money and time.

Managing Your Money

Part of the problem with going to school and working at the same time is that you never seem to have enough money no matter how much you work. A simple solution to this is to make a budget and manage your money in the best possible way. This might seem simple and obvious but finding ways to better manage your money can mean that you do not have to work as often or you might have more money to go out and have fun with your friends and spend money on things that you want. There are a few ways that you can do this. One of the ways is just to list everything that you are required to pay every month, such as food, rent, and tuition, so that you know exactly what you are required to spend every month so that you do not run out of money and have to try to work more hours to pay your bills. Another option is to use a money managing program such as Quicken so that you know exactly how much you are spending, what you are spending it on, and how much money you have left in your accounts. Again, this might seem like a tedious thing to do, and it might not be that important, but it can really same you some money and therefore you won’t have to work as much so you can have more time to do what you want.

How Do You Learn Best?

Study time most likely takes up most of your time when you are in school full time, working, and trying to have  a social life all at the same time. One of the best ways to cut down the amount of  time that you have to dedicate to studying is to find out how you learn best by using the VARK Questionnaire. The VARK Questionnaire will tell you if you learn best in a visual, aural, read/write, or kinesthetic way. By knowing how you learn the best, you can change the ways that you study and cut down the amount of time that you spend studying every day. If you do not have to spend as much time studying you can spend more time doing things that you want to do while still feeling extremely prepared for your exams.
