Datamining + Vision tracking

This week the remote study abroad students began classes on data mining using a program called Weka.  The program reads in data sets with attributes and will try to associate data based on those attributes and return the relations.  I also prepared an abstract with Michel Gardner for a paper addressing water issues on the Greek island of Samos.

I began preparing a 3-d environment using vizard that will serve as a platform for both of my REU projects.  Additional I have been working on a model specifically for the eye tracking project and plan on posting work in progress pictures tonight.  Though work on it has been slow as I do not have a computer with the proper software at the lab and can only make progress at home.

REU + Study abroad

The past 3 days have involved 1pm meetings in preparation for the study abroad program that I am also involved in.  Today was our final meeting and the students actually traveling to Greece will leave tomorrow.  Several other computer science students as well as myself will be remotely communicating with UTA faculty and students in Greece. I will be developing a project, writing a paper on it and preparing a presentation over the summer. I may be involved in several of the projects.

I learned the REU survey paper does not have to be ready until the 15th of June so I will have time to polish my part of the paper.  I was rushing the paper because I believed it needed to be done by the 25th.

The Chris proposed to create an avatar that mirrors the eye movement of the user.  However after reading the papers he had supplied I found in the related works section of one of the papers a reference to a very similar project.  So while the system would be beneficial to the lab we would have to find an additional application for the project.  I plan on starting the initial phases of the model tonight and will post my preliminary drafts and subsequent  progress.

Starting an additional project

So I got the outline for my part of the survey paper done today.  I also started to flesh out some of the paragraphs.  Additionally I joined the eye tracking project in an effort to produce a system with a 3 dimensional character that will interact with a user based on head and eye movement data.

First Post

Today I got the game REU’s introduced to the UTA blog system so that we can have a record of everyone’s progress.  I started the to get all the REU’s  the code they needed to start working on their projects.  Additionally, continued researching the technical specs for the various systems that we will propose to use on the RA project.
