American girls and American guys
Will always stand up and salute
We’ll always recognize
When we see old glory flying
There’s a lot of mended
So we can sleep in peace at night when we lay down our head
My daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he few a flag out in our yard
till the day that he did
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy in the land of the free
Now this nation that I love has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flying
from somewhere in the back
Soon as we can see clearly through our big black eye,
Man we lit up your world like the forth of July
Hey Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list
And the statue of liberty started shaking her fists
And the eagle will fly
And its gonna be hell
When you hear mother freedom start ringing her bell
And it will feel like the whole wide word is raining down on you
Brought to you courtesy of the red, white and blue
Justice will be served
And the battle will rate
This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage
You’ll be sorry you that you messed with the US of A
Cuz will put a boot in your a$$
It’s the American way
Hey Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list
And the statue of liberty started shaking her fists
And the eagle will fly
And its gonna be hell
When you hear mother freedom start ringing her bell
And it will feel like the whole wide word is raining down on you
Brought to you courtesy of the red, white and blue
Of the red white and blue
Of my red white and blue
The word Terrorism strikes emotion with everyone. Although we, The United States of America, have been faced with terror acts in the past and suffered lose it did not effect the daily life and emotion of our country until September 11, 2001. Since September 11, 2001 patriotism, love of family and a sparked level of anger has risen.
In “Courtesy of Red, White and Blue”, singer/songwriter, Toby Keith uses a combination of love for country, family sacrifice and anger as a rally of support of the government to use our troops and money in an effort to bring justice for the devastation handed to all of America on September 11, 2001.
Keith use’s opening lyrics, “American girls and American guys will stand up and salute we’ll always recognize, when we see old glory flying there’s a lot of men dead so we can sleep in peace at night when we lay down our head” to play on the emotion of listeners for patriotic support to defend the freedom that has been attacked and the freedom that has been provided by the sacrifice of thousands on Americans in the past. From the start of this song we are connected by the common respect and thankfulness of our troops and their families, our patriotism.
Keith uses the lyrics, “My daddy served in the army where he lost his right eye but he flew a flag out in our yard till the day he died. He wanted my mother, my brother and my sister and me to grow up and be happy in the land of the free” to build an emotion of sacrifice and remembrance of our great country, strong and free. It is our freedom that has been attacked and now for the first time our daily lives have been changed. The above lyrics stir emotion of anger for past sacrifices and realization of continual attack on the American people.
Toby Keith uses the emotion of the people to not only stand behind the leadership of the United States of American in a time of war, but also revived the citizens, our troops and leaders to continue until the fight is finished. The song is descriptive and paints pictures that we are familiar with allowing the listeners to relate while playing on the feelings of listeners by the use of music to encourage American spirit and pro war support of our country and troops to get all excited for the ongoing fight against terrorism.
