The Patriot

War can often be seen as brutal,  emotional, and destructive. In “The Patriot” war is portrayed as such in reflection of The Revolutionary War. If you have seen the movie you might have realized that the theme in this movie is how war can make a person do things they are uncomfortable with. For instance, Mel Gibson in this movie plays a father who has to deal with the loss of his sons. Originally he refused to join the American fight for independence. However, the continuous encounters that he has with the British general who is responsible for the deaths of his sons causes him to join the American Militia. Gibson focuses his whole war strategy on vengeance towards the British general. But he does so within the confines of war. That is why I agree with how this movie portrayed Americanism. It set the tone for how Americans approached war and developed into a superpower.
