Tk20 Subscription Information for Students Enrolled Spring 2011
In states across the nation, efforts are underway to reform public education. Texas is no exception, and each of us will play a significant role in ensuring quality education for all students PK – 16. Achieving this goal requires that we systematically monitor our progress through the assessment process, and use the data we collect to inform program improvement, advising, and accreditation efforts.
Therefore, the College of Education and Health Professions is pleased to announce the adoption of Tk20, a comprehensive data management system that will provide us with powerful tools to manage our growth and streamline our processes to enable us to meet your needs more efficiently and effectively. The Tk20 system will allow you to:
1. Create your course and performance artifacts online, which you will be able to access and use beyond graduation. This will be a great benefit to you as you seek to advance in your education career and build your career portfolio over time.
2. Submit forms online, including applications for student teaching and other clinical practice required for teacher or administrator certification, and receive timely notification of placement details sent directly to your Tk20 account.
3. Create multimedia portfolios for documenting your work for presentation to faculty and prospective employers that can be exported to CDs or other media.
4. Monitor your progress throughout the program and have access to a fully documented record of your program performance, including field experience, practicum, internship, or clinical practice. This is particularly important, given increased use of performance interviews by employers.
As with other course materials, you will need to subscribe to the program for a one-time only, non-refundable cost of $100. You may purchase your subscription online from a link provided on the system’s Web site or from the UT Arlington Bookstore as you would a textbook or other course materials. You will receive additional details about Tk20 in the syllabus of the next course in your program in which you will be completing a key assessment during the spring semester. You may purchase Tk20 at the start of the course to begin exploring the system and its portfolio features. Once subscribed, it may take 2-3 days for your subscription to become active, so be sure to subscribe in plenty of time to get oriented to the system and complete the assignment your instructor will use for your key assessment.
On-line tutorials and training materials have been organized to orient you to the Tk20 system and its use. In the coming weeks, look for more detailed information and answers to frequently asked questions.
Please know that we understand that a college education requires a significant investment of time and resources, and we are committed to helping you achieve the greatest return on your investment. We have spent a considerable amount of time finding the best system to meet your needs and ours. As you become familiar with the system and realize its potential and benefits, I am sure you will be pleased.
