Hero of War
I urge you to listen to the song before you proceed with reading my blog. “She walked through the bullets and haze, I asked her to stop, I begged her to stay, but she pressed on, so I lifted my gun and I fired away.” As I searched for multiple songs and movies that reflect upon war, I kept coming back to this particular song because of this verse. This song was released by the group Rise Against, titled Hero of War.
No matter if you agree or disagree with war, we have to support the men and women of our armed forces. They make sacrifices for each and every one of us. This song resembles the choices that soldiers make, good or bad we have to support them. My father was in Vietnam and the stories he told as I was growing up are still with me today. The amount of stress and split second decision making they have is unbelievable. As we all know there are scandals and poor decision making with past and present day warfare. Don’t let the bad, outweigh the good.
War is not a lovely picnic in the park on an ideal spring day; it is as real as it comes, life or death. Soldiers make decisions based on past knowledge and training. He or she enters the military for all the right reasons but somewhere may become corrupted along the way. If a soldier makes a poor descison he or she will have to live with it the rest of their lives. It affects them socially, mentally and physically as seen in this video. Without them we would not live the life we live today. Next time you meet a soldier past or present thank them for their service; because of them we are free.
