Wikileaks: opportunities are obvious targets identified

arguments about whether Wikileaks private initiative, or an instrument of the Department of State USA, standard overlooked the easiest, lying on the surface of a conclusion: certainly is. Regardless of whether it was created on the instructions of U.S. special services, or independent fighters with secret diplomacy. Wittingly or unwittingly, Wikileaks has become a powerful weapon in the information history of high power. This so far was only a sighting. Absolutely does not matter who created Wikileaks. Is the story of Julian Assange and his chief informant Bradley Manning is a clean truth or a beautiful legend, which are much more specialized services? The unequivocal answer to this question, we will never have. Space for doubt, in any case, still remains.

Revelation of Wikileaks: expert opinion

Site WikiLeaks, specializes in distributing secret documents published through the world’s leading media on Sunday evening, 28 November, to more than 250,000 letters to diplomats of USA. Promulgated correspondence includes information on the USA’s foreign strategies for many countries, about corruption and characterization of world leaders, including Russian. World leaders, in the declassified documents, give unflattering characteristics. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, as follows from Der Spiegel over 29 November, in the letters refer to the adjectives “delicate” and “indecisive”. Afghan President Hamid Karzai described as “prone to paranoia,” and the leader of Germany, Angela Merkel, allegedly ” avoids risks, and rarely displays a creative approach.” Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is compared to Adolph Hitler. Spanish El Pais drew attention to the characterization of Vladimir Putin. Russian Prime Minister called the “alpha male” (original – alpha-dog) and politician of authoritarian methods, whose personal style of leadership allows us to compare him with the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. “Leakage has already been called the largest diplomatic terrorist attack; in numbers of bloodshed escaping from the correspondence can permanently damage the relations between states. The source of this leak in the Military Intelligence of USA is now facing trial, but this does not prevent the world’s newspapers to keep printing the published documents.

Civilization: Present and Future

Samuel Huntington in 1993 in his article “The Clash of Civilizations» [The Clash of Civilizations?]and its expansion, excerpts from the book of 1996 “Clash of Civilizations and the transformation of world order” [The Clash of Civilizations and Remaking of the World Order], defined civilization as a cultural community of the highest rank, above which have the following types (in the cultural dimension) signs genus human. Division of cultural societies to civilization, he, in fact, is a division of society into a group of people united by common attributes of features: language, history, religion, customs and institutions. Huntington singles out; Western, Confucian, Japanese, Islamic, Hindu, Slavic-Orthodox, Latin American and African civilizations. He argues that the geographical proximity of civilizations often leads to confrontation and even conflict between them. Within this understanding of world order “war of civilizations” is inevitable.

Who will be the masters of Russian and Ukrainian lands in the 21st century?

In Ukraine, 33 million hectares to 75% of arable land is already privately owned – claims the first deputy chairman of the State Inspectorate for the Control and use of land Oleksandr Bredikhin. Currently, most land is concentrated in the ownership of about one hundred families. Residues also interested in the Ukrainian lands in Libya, Saudi Arabia and China. So back in 2004, the Libyan Investment Company Lafiko “expressed its willingness to acquire 100 hectares of arable land for cultivation of Ukrainian wheat. In 2005, negotiations continued with representatives of the new Ukrainian authorities, who promised in case of need to increase the leased area of 250 thousand hectares.

Reflections on the Russian “professional Russian. A View from Ukraine

27-28 November in Kiev was held an event with impressions of participation in which I want to share. According to one version of the event should be considered a meeting of Ukrainian Organizations Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots (VKSORS), on the other – the All-Ukrainian Conference of Russian Compatriots. Difference is significant, because VKSORS guided by the “registry”, which should be recorded as Compatriots – almost like a “registry” Cossacks, swore allegiance to the Polish king. If you talk about the All-Ukrainian conference, according to the idea there should be delegated to representatives of all the actually existing, a legally-full (the list – the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine), and working organizations. Delegated – by the district conference with the compliance, of course, generally accepted criteria for representation. This is according to the idea. And that, in fact – see below.

Congress of Russian compatriots’ organizations completed a scandal

Russian World of Ukraine has cracked

Held in Kiev, the gathering of Russian compatriots’ organizations ended in scandal. The reason was the re-election in the regime of secrecy member of the Party of Regions, Vadim Kolesnichenko, and the leader of Ukrainian Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots. Part of the over one hundred registered in Ukraine, pro-Russian organizations, are suspecting Russian Embassy in lobbying for Kolesnichenko. The same opinion is shared by several regional associations of Russian compatriots. In particular, representatives of the Kharkov organization, preparing for the Kiev Congress, were opposed to the re-election of Kolesnichenko.

Letting people in rental

Last weekend a meeting of the Coordination Council of Russian compatriots’ organizations. Before the meeting was held in Kiev, several regional conferences, and almost all of them were accompanied by loud scandals of the powerful and unscrupulous intervention of the Russian Embassy officials in the electoral process. At the meeting in Kiev was not allowed the press and even the delegates to “filter” solely on the principle of loyalty or disloyalty towards Kolesnichenko. Invocation of the regional leaders of organizations of Russian compatriots to the Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Zurabov to nothing leads, and perhaps only tightened the “arm twisting”. From this follows the logical conclusion: Zurab was not only well informed about what is happening, but it is not excluded person “guided the process.” About the insolence and shamelessly that prevailed at this “meeting”, shows at least the fact that when we are talking about the election at a conference of representatives of Ukraine in the World Council of Russian Compatriots, the newly elected Kolesnichenko said that representatives from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has already assigned!

Mukhametshin (Surkov?) Medvedev framed or spouse Russian president in the chapter “Russian difficulty!

Last weekend was held in Kyiv a Conference of Russian compatriot’ organizations, which turned out a slap to the Russian cause, meaning towards Russian president Dmitry Medvedev and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. Betrayed by their voters on the abolition of discrimination against the Russian language, in Little Russia (Ukraine), the Party of Regions has fully seized leadership in the Coordinating Council of Russian compatriots’ organizations in Ukraine. Head of the council became Vadim Kolesnichenko, known laudatory verses addressed to Taras Bulba-Borovets – famous (conscious) of the Ukrainian ally of the Nazis.

«RUSSIAN OFFICIALS ESSENTIALLY HAVE ANTI-RUSSIAN POLICIES»

Pro-Russian forces in Ukraine are known mostly in expert circles, a simple little voter knows about them. And it’s not only and not in underfunding – the ideological base of “lame”. Staffing problems … Without the support of Russia any pro-Russian political initiative is doomed to failure, and Russian officials are constantly imposing these Russian “leaders” with whom no sane person would work with. If the chairman of the National Council of All-Ukrainian public organization “Union of Russian Journalists and writers, a board member of the Kiev Russian Union of Journalists and Writers” Russian Truth “, the chief editor and publisher of the newspaper for compatriots” Russian Truth “is an uneducated man who does not have any at all higher education not to mention journalistic or philology, it becomes clear why the “worthy” of this organization will not go, and the members of such organizations are called fringes. Foreign Ministry argues that there were 30-million countrymen. In 2009, for their support of the national budget was allocated about $ 30 million, another $ 12 million allocated by the Government of Moscow. Consequently, in support of compatriots in Ukraine, where they were, about one-third of the total last year had to spend about $ 14 million! The so-called “registry” organization of Russian compatriots in Ukraine is 125 organizations. It is easy to calculate that each of them in the past year was to receive for its activities by $ 112,000! It is clear that most of them did not receive a penny, but after all, and no money.

Was the Soviet occupation of the Baltic republics?

Neither historical nor a legal point of view, the thesis about the occupation of the Baltic republics by the Soviet Union in 1940 proved impossible. This thesis is only a political rationale and uses the current ruling elites in the Baltic countries to maintain their stay in power. Take away this thesis, and the king would be naked. “All built after 1991 model division of society into “invaders” and “occupied” will collapse at the same moment. This was stated by the candidate of historical sciences, director of the Baltic Centre of historical and socio-political research Viktor Gushin 27 November in Vilnius at the international conference “Lessons of History: a look deep into the decades.”

65 years ago was proclaimed the establishment of the Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia

29 November 1945 the Constituent Assembly of at its first meeting, proclaimed the birth of the Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia. But who stands at the origins of the breakup of Yugoslavia? At the root of the collapse of the SFRY at the source of funding separatist movements is not far away America, and Europe: the centers of separatism are located in Switzerland, Holland and Germany – in Europe. Are long. Europe has long knows about it and somehow they are supported and even funded (yes, indirectly, but still …). That Europe is a firm knows that a big state near its borders – a direct threat to its plans. Europe needs this territory, but subordinate and submissive to her. Therefore, in the early nineties (I think that the start time of the Yugoslav wars and the formation of the EU, few will consider a coincidence).

Russian World of Ukraine on the eve of great changes

27-28 November this year Kiev is to be held the second for the entire 19-year history of independent Ukraine, Ukrainian Conferrence Russian compatriots’ organizations. One of the most discussed issues at all district Conferrence x was the adoption of the provisions of the Coordinating Council as District and All-Ukrainian. Since the last conference held in October 2008, there was just pathetic situations, as members of the Coordinating Council was elected at the conference, and the position on the council did not approve. Therefore, over the next two years after the Conference Board members, “justifying the confidence of voters and portraying the appearance of” intense activity “on several occasions met, but as a document defining their powers were not, and the Council itself and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Compatriots viewed as a non-existent entity. Suffice it to say that none of the official sites of the Russian Foreign Ministry, he still does not appear either as action or as representing the interests of the compatriots in the Ukraine. No documentary traces of their existence were left by the Board also.

Political scientist Fedor Yakovlev on the outcome of local elections in Ukraine and the Supreme Soviet of Crimea

Local elections and the Russian Ukraine

At previous elections, the party led by Alexander Svistunov won 12 seats in the Supreme Soviet of Crimea and about 120 local councils at various levels. In these elections, new leadership cannot boast more than a dozen seats in the municipal and district councils. However, it is not surprising, since the majority of party members refused to cooperate with him. Actually, “new leadership” of the party and was not going to work with its asset…….. 3 deputy mandates out of 100 in the Crimean Supreme Soviet and a couple dozen in the local councils at different levels of the same make of Crimea “Russian Unity” too insignificant political force even at the regional level. Especially in the eyes of most voters, they look like nothing more than a clone of the OS, which confirms the statement of one of the leaders of the party Tsekov made them after the elections: “In Parliament, we intend to cooperate with most regions. Actually, before the election we expressed a desire to work with them. ”

INTO WHOM ARE RUSSIANS BEING TRANSFORMED INTO

I, the old Armenian, have seen a lot, who gave his life to the industry of the Armenian SSR, and, the rights of the old stager, who replaced many senior positions, I will say: Victory ALWAYS is accomplished, first in spirit, and only later – often with considerable delay – it catches up with the matter. Something died, lost the engine, can purely by inertia to roll for many years rolled on a track. But what is dead is still moving, does not alter the fact that it is already dead. In the ocean of injustice and humiliation, which dipped Russian, excesses are inevitable, and any normal native will clearly be aware of it. Is this true? Inevitable Russian victory, which I believe, and his victory, too? If the deceased ‘genius’ crowned with a wreath of laurel in all liberalist community, Yegor Gaidar, has publicly said: “Russia as Russian state has no historical perspective” – is a symptom. So my compatriots, who fear to get under the whole rink just Russian anger, I can advise: the best remedy for xenophobia in Russia – is the most complete and speedy return of civil and social equality of the owner of the Russian land – the Russian people. One of the foreigners, who are fighting for it – will rise in a row with the winners and will receive a well-deserved award. Well, the one who is against it – let him remember that the historical revenge is not always proportional to the acts …

But in Russia it is a combination of these qualities that can make discoveries … The main socio-political result is not that how the audience relates to the past and in the assessment of this – people are terribly disappointed over the last twenty years … Actually, what 20 years? Add 20 years to the 29th year, which began collectivization – get the 49th.

Featured bloggers talked about their first steps into the blogosphere

22 October Live AIF.RU director and owner of LiveInternet – German Klimenko told readers about his view on the future of social networks and the blogosphere. In his opinion, the Learn and all blogging platforms have already reached their peak: those who had – sold, someone was able to attract investors. It is time to give way to social networks more classic properties. According to Klimov, most people prefer to read. The format of the same blogs – it’s a conversation between two or more people, usually with common interests. The involvement of new participants an Internet network based on the principle: people go ahead, more literate in technical terms, let alone for the rest of them gradually tightened until the housewives. Learn to read, however, homemakers not interested. They are interested to buy something with a big discount …So what conclusions about what blogging platforms have reached the maximum of its development, and therefore grow will no longer be quite logical. Who learned to make them – they earn, and who has not learned – sooner or later die. In connection with the 10th anniversary of “Learn” the political scientist and blogger Sergei Sibiryakov asked experienced bloggers, experts tell us about your first steps in the past in the past LiveJournal.

  Orthodoxy – Russian Mir
24 October 2010 Jonathan (Eletskih)
Archbishop Tulchinsky and Bratslav, the Moscow Patriarchate

Presentation of a case analysis of program declarations of representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Moscow Patriarchate and the non-canonical religious organizations: “UAOC” and “the UOC-KP”

NEW “KIEV IDEA” AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO RUSSIAN PEACE and antipode

The struggle for the Russian Mir – a struggle with the ideas, the virus attempts to put the Orthodox Moscow on the bench, “the defendants”, and the fight against the destruction of a unified Orthodox-Russian identity, division and cultural degradation of generations, topical subject of falsification common with Russia, the history of nations, the newly economic independence and statehood. Including attempts to construct such “national” ideas, which, on closer examination, are the result of transitory political situation, but could harm the integrity of the Russian world. In our view, thousands of “Our Patriarch – Cyril!” Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and Sviatogorsk and other cities of Ukraine were not only a tribute to the etiquette, or an emotional outburst, they were a clear confession of the Orthodox Ukrainian people of their spiritual and canonical administrative and canonical unity with the Russian Orthodox Church, confession all meaning of the word Rusi – from the Carpathians to the Pacific Ocean. It was the voice of Truth Ukrainian Orthodox people to His holy shrines in the ancient land of Kiev-Pechersk and Sviatogorsk Laurus. Intuitively, at a subconscious level, people realized that the protection of Russian World is the defense of not only past but also the East Slavic civilization of the future of Ukraine.

DRAMA IN THREE EXISTENCES

FRIEDRICH GEBBELA

____________

The interpreter

Fredric Goebbels, whose drama, we offer readers, belongs with some of most brilliant modern writers of Germany. He is a poet and a play writer. But his lyrical structure, time to time is with a lot of personal encouragement, but not compared to certain verbal form, which for some time, no one has recieved this much fame for a drama. His first tragedy “Udio” had one of those brilliant lucks destined raise a storms in the literary world. There has been a lot written about him in the German magazines: some made him out to be genus, describing new ways of dramatic poetry; others slung dirt at him, calling his writing an ugly caricature. Never the less, as it goes, it’s always between two opinions. Gabbel’s talents, truthfully, has excess of unnecessary roughness and sinfulness; but you cannot argue about the strength of his concept, in more concise and energy of the language, with an ability to bring out an eruption of feelings. The structure in his drama is simple and natural and only visible in the lines structure of a fantastic element. But not without them blaming him about that, this sometimes in his dramas shows not a lively face, but origination of ideas.

For me, everyone else is suffering from these shortages in our “Magdalene”: he it’s all as it should be within nothing no extras; all of the following scenes follow one after another, naturally preparing a tragic denouement.”Magdalene” is not a tearful melodrama, which is so rich in German tragedies; this- tragedy in full and in all meaning of the words is constructed on the parallel identity with destiny, with freedom of necessity. The modern world doesn’t let the flow of rapid fate, but admits the inner necessity, the force of things, from which individual freedom in peace or war. The best person in drama – Master Anton, his image and scary and attractive, he’s a person of a different era. He does not understand, “how this world moves”, – these are his own words, and this is what causes the death of his family. Impeccable in moral dilemma and at the same time the guilt, makes him the one to blame for everyone’s misfortunes. Nature of Magdalene is made far from such roughness and opinions, he just leaves them weak. She does not awake that area, which-as she should have awaken it with her dramatic situation. And I, the brother and a lover, Leonhard, outlines the incomparable reliance.

Let’s bring up in our closing statement, the overview of Gabbel’s life. He was born in Ditmarsh, in 1813, and owes it all to himself, because his parents, poor folk, were not able to give him a good education. His poem came to him in the first half of his youth in his local farm, but when he became 22 years old, thirst for knowledge drew him first to universities in Hamburg and Copenhagen and then in the universities of Geydelbergsk and Myunhensk. This time is referred to him befriending Heine, with whom he was friends till the end. And then began his first appearance: he made his lyrical poems and which appeared and referred us to drama “Yudio”. In He currently lives in Vene, where he is married to actress Christine Enggauz.

Gabbel wrote with his drama, “Magdalene”, a comment, in which he expresses his view on the dramatic studies. We have found here his desired result, but maybe it will acquaint in accordance to the readers.
So far the Russian language was only one of his pieces, “Almaz”, printed in “Sovremennike”

Thoughts for the traslation

November 22nd, 2010 · Uncategorized

In the historical sense, the literary work we are working on is a masterpiece. All though even for a Russian heritage reader it’s a difficult task to translate or ever read it. The hard sign is used a lot to form a tone for the reader, in a way to make them appreciate the work. Reading the text, before I had the Orthographic Conventions, having the knowledge of the language I automatically started to eliminate the “hard sign” and try to make sense of the symbol” ѣ”. But after figuring out the letter meaning “e” it was easy then.

Translating the text for me is pretty simple. The real task is that I have is to give the reader of the translation the same feeling that the original text had. I have to choose proper language that may have the same context as originally and hope that the reader will have the same feeling. A feel of respect and emotion is present here and that is a task. It’s difficult because the English language hasn’t really changed its alphabet.

Для большинства своих программ аудитория намного превышает количество подписчиков на The New York Times и The New Yorker, чем число людей, которые читают даже крупнейших бестселлеров.

All Programs Considered
by Bill McKibben
New York Review of Books
November 11, 2010

Radio receives little critical attention. Of the various methods for communicating ideas and emotions—books, newspapers, visual art, music, film, television, the Web—radio may be the least discussed, debated, understood. This is likely because it serves largely as a transmission device, a way to take other art forms (songs, sermons) and spread them out into the world. Its other uses can be fairly pedestrian too: ball games and repetitive, if remarkably effective, right-wing commercial talk radio. Rush Limbaugh is the radio ratings champ; according to the industry’s trade journal he reaches 14.25 million listeners in an average week. Sean Hannity, working the same turf, trails him slightly.

But an equally large audience turns to the part of the dial where public radio in its various forms can be found. Public radio claims at least 5 percent of the radio market. National Public Radio’s flagship news programs, Morning Edition and All Things Considered, featuring news and commentary alongside in-depth reports and stories that can stretch over twenty minutes—are the second- and third-most-popular radio programs in the country, each drawing about 13 million unique listeners in the course of the week. These NPR shows have far larger audiences than the news on cable television; indeed, all four television broadcast networks combined only draw twice as large an audience for their evening newscasts. Morning Edition and All Things Considered are supplemented by well-regarded programs like The World, a BBC coproduction with Boston’s WGBH, and the business broadcast Marketplace—programming produced outside of NPR itself but within the larger world of public radio. In polls, public radio is rated as the most trusted source of news in the nation. The audience for most of its programs dwarfs the number of subscribers to the The New York Times or The New Yorker, or the number of people who read even the biggest best sellers.

About one in ten Americans tune in to public radio each week; if you landed in a spaceship someplace in America searching for thoughtful and nonpartisan culture, your first stop would be the public radio stations that usually show up below 92 on the FM dial. You’d find not just the big news shows but also a variety of call-in shows: national ones, like On Point, The Diane Rehm Show, or Talk of the Nation, with its much-loved Science Friday edition, but also a number of superb local talk programs, with hosts like Leonard Lopate and Brian Lehrer in New York, Michael Krasny in San Francisco, Steve Scher in Seattle, Larry Mantle in L.A.—the list is very long.

These differ from the commercial right-wing shows in that they daily feature guests from a wide spectrum of American political and cultural life: on the morning I’m writing this, for instance, Tom Ashbrook of On Point in Boston spent an hour discussing the rise of social gaming on Facebook, Krasny covered “the troubled construction industry,” and The Leonard Lopate Show examined the current state of the company Google. The sine qua non of these efforts is Terry Gross’s relentlessly intelligent interview show Fresh Air, which is based in Philadelphia, has been running for thirty-five years, is syndicated to more than 450 stations, and claims nearly 4.5 million listeners.
And yet very little gets written about public radio. We have no equivalent of the late and lamented British magazine The Listener, which combined independent commentary with essays and features that had originally been broadcast as radio pieces; even NPR’s own (excellent) journalism forum, On the Media, usually concentrates on television or print. There’s no well-known radio equivalent of the Emmys or the Grammys or the Oscars (or even the Tonys). In a sense, I think, this reflects public radio’s smooth professionalism—it’s gotten so good at its basic task that it’s taken for granted, a kind of information utility.1

I talked recently with Robert Krulwich, who first joined the NPR network just a few years after All Things Considered went on the air in the Nixon era and now cohosts the public radio program Radiolab, and he remembers those days as filled with invention:

Radio was dead—it was top 40. All the smarties were at the Times or The Washington Post, or if you didn’t want to be Woodward and Bernstein you went to work for Walter Cronkite at the Tiffany network. This group of nutty people wandered in and said, let’s do radio. We’ll reinvent it. Jump thirty-five or forty years ahead and where is Walter Cronkite? What happened to The Washington Post? And guess what, the nutty radio people have suddenly emerged as the focus for a huge audience. And now they have a little of the swagger of the Timesmen.

Difficulties of dealing with machine translations

October 29th, 2010 · Uncategorized

Over all, the idea of machine translations gives way for the foreign language to become a more acceptable and familiar way of understanding what you may not have before. It helps those who may not know a language to understand something that may have been in the past a puzzle. But for me, a foreign speaker of Russian, it gives me a headache, because with knowledge of Russian sentence structure and the different tenses, the translation made by the machine , may give an idea of whats going on in the story, but over all it makes small sense to a Russian person reading the story.
The machined translation does not identify masculine, feminine or nuder nouns which the Russian language has. Some difficulties came in translating some words that had a different meaning after it was translated. I have come to a conclusion, that in some and most cases it better to take out the complex description of a noun and translate the bare sentence first before adding the extras. This will at least give the machine translation an easy task, which will help the translator to translate sentences with proper tense and gender.
The exert that we are currently working on has been a difficult task. In class we discussed, with other students in our Russian field, about the difficulty of the title, as well as the first sentence. Russian language as any when words are translated, sometimes they have a different meaning or don’t relate to the sentence in the same context. The word ” критического” meaning criticizing something or someone, but in the original English text the word is “ critical”, which may mean the importance of or it may have a small meaning to it which has to do with critiquing , but you have to find that out by reading the entire page to get the idea of which proper word to use to give the same meaning that the reader originally intended.
Over all the story has presented some difficulties and there are most likely more to come.

Translation #2

Moscow. Towards the Kursk station.
All say:Kremlin, Kremlin. I have heard a lot about him, but i myself have never seen him. How many times already (a thousand times), drunk or with a hangover, walking through Moscow from North to South and from West to East, from one end to the other and how horrible – and never saw the Kremlin.

So yesterday, again I didn’t see, from all the nights spent running around the same places and not that I was too drunk: once I came to the Savelovskoi, drank a glass of zubrowki to get started, because from experience I know that as the morning saying goes, people have not invented anything better yet.

So. Glass of zubrowki. And then – at the Kalievskoj – another glass, but not a glass of zubrowki, but coriander. One of my friend once said, that affect of coriander on a person is inhuman, that is while strengthening the body it relaxes the soul. Why to me something on the opposite happened , in which, the soul is extremely strong, and the body is weak, but I agree it’s inhuman. Therefore, that’s why, at the Kalievskoj, I added two mugs of djigulevskova beer and a neck of ALB DE Dessert wine.

You, of course will ask: and then, Vanichka, and then – what did you drink? Yes, I myself don’t know the path that I took on drinking. I remember – precisely remember – on Chekhov Street I drank two cups of hunters. But I can see myself crossing the Garden ring, without having nothing to drink? Couldn’t. Meaning, I had something to drink.

And then, I arrived in downtown, because its always that way for me: when I search for the Kremlin, I always arrive at the Kursk station. As a see,I actually had to go to the Kursk station, not to downtown, and I still ended up in downtown, I long to see the Kremlin at least once: all day long, I think, I wont see Kremlin but end up across the Kursk station.

Its saddens me almost to tears. Of course, I feel ashamed, that yesterday, I could not get to the Kursk station. (this is nonsense: didn’t leave yesterday – will go out today). Certainly, not because I woke up one morning in somebodies entrance (it turns out, that yesterday, I sat down on the steps of the entrance, recollecting the bottom of the fortieth step, with my suitcase close to my heart – and fell asleep). No, that’s not why I’m ashamed. I’m ashamed because: I just calculated that from the Chekhov Street to the entrance of the building I spend six rubles on a drink – and what did I drink? And in what order? For the sake, did I drink for myself or for evil? Nobody knows, and never will find out.
Now we still don’t know: was it King Boris that killed Prince Dmitri or was it vise versa?

What is this entrance? I don’t have any idea, but so be it. That’s it. All things must happen slowly and irregularly, that fail to block the man, that man was sad and lost.

I went down for some air, when daybreak came. Everybody knows ,everybody who’s unconsciously ended up in the entrance, and by daybreak left it- everyone knows, the weight in the heart I carried upwards forty stairs through somebodies else entrance and I carried it out during daybreak.

Nothing, nothing, “I told myself – nothing. There-you see a drugstore? And he- the queer in brown jacket scraping the pavement. Do you see this also. Now, lets take it easy. Everything is going the way it should be. If you want to go left, Vanichka,go left,I wont force you to do anything. If you want to go right -go right.

I went to the right, just rocking from the cold and with grief, Yes, from the cold and with grief. Oh, this morning burden in my heart! Oh, but a plague of wishful thinking! Oh, irreparable! What’s there more to it,on the same topic, none have given it a name? What is there more in it: paralysis or nausea? Depletion of nerves or death longing somewhere close to the heart? And if its all equally, around what is more, after all: tetanus or fever?

Nothing, nothing, “I said to myself – shelter yourself from the wind and gradually go. And breathe slowly time-to-time. Breathe in a way- so the knee don’t cling together. And head anywhere, just go. Doesn’t matter, where. And if you end up going left-you’ll end up in the Kursk station, if straight – all the same, the Kursk station, turn right – same place, the Kursk station. Therefore go the right you’ll certainly end up there.

Oh, vanity! Oh, evanescence! Oh, most helpless and shameful time in the year of my life- in the time from dawn to open shops! How many Many endowed it plated in all of us, the homeless and longing brown-haired people. Go,Vanichka, go.

1st Translation(Thoughts)

September 24th, 2010 · Uncategorized

In all the passage came out to be a great experience to see the tone of voice that a translator has to transfer though his work in order to convey the same message that the original author intended for it to be. I found some words to be difficult to arrange in a sentence to make it proper for the English language. Having a background in the culture I can say that it gave me a bit of an advantage in the work.
To help me really get a grasp of the story I had to place myself in the feet of the news reporter. I would picture the things and the situations that are described on the news, especially the tone and the manner of the report, and plugged it in to the tone of my translation. In some situations, I found that the masculine and the feminine cases would give some people troubles, but after reading sentence by sentence the main picture emerged.
I used a small number of translators on the internet, and found that each one gave a different perspective on translating the sentence. Google came pretty close to be the best, but Bing was better. The tone of the translation came to be more accurate and, of course, in the end it’s your job to fix their mistakes with the knowledge that you have learned…

Москва. На пути к Курскому вокзалу.(NEEDS TO BE TRANSLATED)

September 17th, 2010 · Uncategorized
