SEL Tip – Speed Up Your Printing!

Remember getting stuck waiting for a print job that seems like it’s taking forever? The printer says “Processing” but you think it may actually be stuck.

In many cases, the problem is that the printer is using up its processing memory searching for unrecognized fonts or symbols. Here’s how to speed up your printing for different file types.

PDF Files

If you use “Print as Image,” the printer will simply print, like making a copy of the document.

  1. From the Print dialog box, click on the “Advanced” button.
  2. Select the check box labeled “Print as Image.”
  3. Click OK.
  4. Continue with your print job.

Microsoft Office Files

These files typically get caught up when you include formalas, which often contain symbols that the printer doesn’t recognize. To speed up these jobs, replace the formulas with an image of them.

  1. Press the “Print Screen” button.
  2. Open Paint (found in Accessories).
  3. Paste the image.
  4. Crop the image to the size you need.
  5. Save the image, probably as a .jpg, though .bmp or .gif will also work.
  6. Insert the image in the spot you need it in the document.
  7. Print the job.

If you need help with these procedures, ask at the Service Desk.

Happy printing!
