Visualizing Data in the Classroom
By 2012 there will be 197 million augmented reality capable cellphones in use globally. Data visualization is increasingly becoming a part of how we learn and ‘see’ the world. For our students, this is native way of understanding and interacting with their environment. We will take a look at new tools for the classroom as diverse as Prezi (a presentation software using visualization techniques that makes PowerPoint looks like one of your grandmother’s doilies) to Google map mashups to iPhone apps.
April 8th, 3:00-4:30, PH 310
Screencasting: Moving Teaching Online

You can capture anything that appears on your screen in a video format. Have teaching modules that you use again and again? Frequently asked questions that need to be answered? Do you demonstrate material onscreen for your classes? Use film clips? Need to archive a conversation with a virtual visiting speaker? If so, then screencasting is for you. This workshop will introduce you  to screencasting software that will enable you to create videos to upload to the Web or burn to a CD or DVD.
